Publishing research articles in scientific journals is demanding. As publishing is a prerequisite for a career in academia, it is important to approach this challenge strategically. This workshop describes steps between submission and publication and enables participants to map out publishing strategies

- Publishing in open access journals
- What editors want
- How to write a review report by yourself
- How to respond to editors' comments
- What to do in case of rejection
- Ethical obligations
- Authorship

The participants learn
- to understand the publication process in peer-reviewed journals
- to develop individual strategies for publishing research articles

Target audience
PhD candidates and researchers planning to publish

Methods
Short lectures provide information and tips; extended exercises help to develop individual strategies. In addition, participants share experiences and discuss recommendations.

Philipp Mayer received a PhD in the field of biodiversity research and he is a trainer for scientific writing. He has broad experience in research and in adult education.
